ESL Humanizer review: a clean diff and a 97/100 meaning score, but its own detector still said 100% AI

The one free guest rewrite worked with no sign-up. The tool shows every changed word, and scored the meaning as kept at 97/100. Its own before-and-after AI estimate read 100% likely AI both times. After the run the editor locked until sign-in or a paid pass.

Good for

Seeing exactly which words a rewrite changed in a short paragraph, when one free try is enough.

Main limit

One guest rewrite a day. In this test the page’s own detector estimate did not move.

Free plan facts↑ Contents

Account neededNo, for the one free rewrite. We did not sign in, start a trial, pay or enter an email. A “Sign in” button stays in the header; no pop-up appeared on arrival
Free allowanceThe page says “1 rewrite a day, no account needed” and “2 rewrites a day when you sign in”, up to 1,500 characters per rewrite. The counter read “838 / 1,500 free”. The page’s headline also says “Free for ~250 words”; the counter counts characters
SettingsNone shown to guests: one text box, one button (“Humanize my text”), output labelled “Natural English”. No tone, level or language choice
Time to outputThe button read “Polishing your English…” and the result appeared in roughly 3–6 s. Not timed with a stopwatch
Its own scores“Meaning preserved 97/100”, and “Before 100% likely to read as AI”, “After 100% likely to read as AI”, with the note “An estimate, not a guarantee — no AI-detection tool is 100% reliable”
After the runThe editor showed “That was today’s free rewrite.” with “Sign in with Google to get 2 free rewrites a day”, or unlimited rewrites of up to 3,000 characters “from about $22/month”, and a “7-day pass, $9.99”
Extras shown“Edit text”, “Start over”, “Edit report” (a download of every change, described as for sharing with an instructor) and “Copy”

Test 1: input vs output↑ Contents

An AI-written paragraph about AI in education, and exactly what ESL Humanizer returned. Copy either to check it yourself.

Input109 words
Artificial intelligence has fundamentally transformed the way students approach their academic work. In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, AI-powered tools offer unprecedented opportunities to enhance learning outcomes and streamline research processes. Furthermore, these technologies enable learners to access personalized feedback, identify knowledge gaps, and develop critical thinking skills more efficiently than ever before. However, it is important to note that the integration of AI in education also presents significant challenges, including concerns about academic integrity and over-reliance on automated assistance. Ultimately, striking the right balance between leveraging AI capabilities and fostering independent thought will be crucial for educators and students alike as they navigate this new era of learning.
ESL Humanizer output106 words
Artificial intelligence has changed the way students approach their academic work. In today's fast-changing digital world, AI-powered tools offer new opportunities to improve learning outcomes and make research easier. These technologies also let learners get personalized feedback, identify gaps in their knowledge, and build critical thinking skills more efficiently than before. At the same time, using AI in education brings real challenges, including concerns about academic integrity and relying too much on automated help. In the end, finding the right balance between using AI's capabilities and encouraging independent thought will be important for both educators and students as they deal with this new era of learning.

Slightly off“Deal with this new era of learning” reads a little odd; otherwise the meaning is kept.

Findings & screenshots↑ Contents

  • The rewrite swapped about two dozen words and phrases, and the page highlights each one in red (removed) and green (added). Sentence order, sentence count (five) and structure are unchanged. Output is 106 words for 109 in.
  • The page’s own detector estimate was “100% likely to read as AI” before and “100% likely to read as AI” after. We did not run an outside detector, so this says only that the tool’s own check did not see a change on this text.
  • The “Meaning preserved 97/100” score matches what we read: the points are kept. We don’t know how the score is computed.
  • Each rewrite is also the last one: the editor locked right after the run, and “Start over” did not give the quota back in an earlier trial. We ran one text only, so there is no second text to compare. A trial run the day before on the same paragraph gave a different rewrite, with the page showing “Meaning preserved 96/100” and the same 100% / 100% estimate.
After the one free guest run: the diff, 97/100 meaning, 100% / 100% AI estimate, and the paywall banner.Open original ↗

Pros and cons↑ Contents

Pros

  • One free rewrite with no account
  • Highlights every changed word
  • Kept the meaning and the sentence structure
  • Quick, a few seconds

Cons

Method & updates↑ Contents

One run on Oct 23, 2026 by an automated browser, as a guest on eslhumanizer.com: the same education paragraph we use for every humanizer, default settings, one run. We recorded the output word for word, the page’s scores and a screenshot; Jamie C. checked the records and wrote this page. The second text could not be run because the free rewrite was used. Repeat runs of humanizers vary. Full method.

Not tested

  • Our workplace paragraph (the guest quota was used by the first run; not run on a second day)
  • Anything after sign-in (we don’t create accounts for tests)
  • The 7-day pass and paid plans, and the 3,000-character limit
  • Independent detectors (GPTZero, Originality.ai, Copyleaks) run by us on this output
  • Repeat runs of the same text

Update log

  • First published (test 1, one guest rewrite).
