Ginger grammar checker review: 10 of 13 planted errors fixed as a guest, and one “fix” made a sentence worse

In this test Ginger corrected ten of our thirteen planted errors on its own and flagged three more without fixing them. For “me and my team” it did not delete “me and”. It added “and I”, giving “me and my team and I tested”.

Good for

Fixing simple agreement, spelling and word-choice slips in one short paragraph with no account.

Main limit

A 450-character cap per check, three flagged problems left to you, and a rephrase counter that reads “Free trial 1/40”. A non-blocking “Internal server error” banner also appeared.

Free plan facts↑ Contents

Account neededNo. The check and the rephrase ran as a guest; we entered no email and created no account. “LOG IN” sits in the header
Input limitA counter appeared once text was in the box. The counter turned red and read “N / 450” when a paste went over, so the cap is 450 characters. The empty editor showed no limit. Our text G is 410 characters and fit
Dialects“US/UK English” (default), “UK English”, “US English”. No other languages in the checker
RephraseSentence by sentence, with no sign-up. A counter read “Free trial 1/40 – Upgrade to Premium” after one use
Time to resultNot timed. The result appeared in the next step of the automated run
Popups and adsNo cookie banner, captcha or sign-up popup. A Google ad slot, a Reverso dictionary banner and a floating video ad were on the page. “Upgrade to Premium” with a “50% off” badge sat beside the buttons
ErrorsAn orange “Internal server error” banner appeared above the corrected text. The correction still rendered
Running the checkClicking “Correct” did nothing in our run. The advertised shortcut, Ctrl+Enter, produced the result

Ginger’s counter said “13 auto-corrected mistakes”, which is not the same as our count of planted errors fixed. We count visible edits: ten planted errors fixed, a comma removed before “because”, and the “and I” insertion. The extra counts appear to come from multi-word fixes, which is our reading.

Planted errors, one by one↑ Contents

Text G is a paragraph we wrote with 13 deliberate errors. The table lists each, what Ginger did and the resulting wording. “Three left” means a red underline with no automatic fix.

Findings & screenshots↑ Contents

  • Simple agreement, spelling and word-choice errors were fixed in one pass. “are”, “take”, “agree” and “save” became “is”, “takes”, “agrees” and “saves”. “their is” became “there are”, “then” became “than”, “seen” became “saw”, and the three misspellings were corrected.
  • Three errors survived. “me and”, “more” and “of” stayed red-underlined. “more faster than” and “Despite of these problems” are in the corrected output as written. The three were not locked or blurred, just not fixed.
  • The “me and my team” fix added words. The corrected text reads “Last week me and my team and I tested”. In our reading that is more awkward than the input.
  • Rephrase worked on the already-corrected sentence. It offered six rewrites of sentence 1. Two (“My team and I last week conducted a test…” and “Last week, I tested… with my team.”) avoid the “me and” problem. One (“Last week, I and my team…”) is itself awkward. The suggestions started from Ginger’s own “and I” version.
  • No quota counter on the check itself. Only the rephrase showed a counter, “Free trial 1/40”. We ran one check, so we cannot say whether the check is limited further.

The texts and outputs↑ Contents

Text G · input · planted errors76 words
Last week me and my team tested a new project management app. The interface are clean, and their is a lot of features, but the setup take too long. Everyone agree that the mobile app is more faster then the desktop version. We also seen several bugs when we tried to export a report, which was disapointing. Despite of these problems, we will probably keep useing it, because it save us alot of time every day.

Method & updates↑ Contents

On Nov 2, 2026 an automated browser opened Ginger’s free grammar checker as a guest with the defaults. Typing the paragraph character by character timed out on the live-spelling box and a first paste produced a duplicated, over-limit box, so the box was cleared and the text pasted in three pieces. The final box matched text G (410 characters, 76 words). The browser then ran the check once and the rephrase once on sentence 1. Jamie C. checked the records and wrote this page. Full method.
