Good for
A quick AI-or-human check on a paragraph with no account, plus the three most AI-looking sentences when it says AI.
Main limit
As a guest, a human verdict comes with no sentence view: the button for it asks you to sign up. The per-sentence “Advanced” scan is behind “Try for Free”.
Free plan facts↑ Contents
| Account needed | Not for the Basic Scan. All three scans ran as a guest; we entered no email |
|---|---|
| Input limit | The home-page box shows a “0/10,000 characters” counter. The scan page asks for “at least 250 characters” |
| Friction | Moving from gptzero.me to the scan page on the first scan showed a “Hang on while we verify your browser” hCaptcha. It took the automated browser a few tries to get past; it did not come back |
| Scan counter | After text A the page read “1/1 free scans left” beside the Advanced-scan button. Re-scans of D and F still ran and the label did not change, so we read it as applying to the Advanced scan. We did not click it |
| Time to result | About one to two seconds per scan; the page shows no timer |
| Locked for guests | The fourth “most AI sentence” card is blurred. “Advanced sentence scanning” says “Try for Free”. On a human verdict, “See sentence highlighting” opens “Sign up to Continue” (Google, Facebook, Clever SSO, Github or email). “Improve clarity” and “Correct grammar” show lock icons |
| Sign-up terms | The sign-up box says you also agree to receive product-related marketing emails |
Results↑ Contents
The headline result for each text, with default settings. Green means the verdict matched what the text really is.
| Text | What it really is | Chance the text is… | GPTZero verdict | Sentence view |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Text A | AI-written · education | AI 100% · Mixed 0% · Human 0% | We are highly confident this text was AI generated | 3 shown + 1 blurred |
| Text D | Undetectable AI rewrite of A | AI 100% · Mixed 0% · Human 0% | We are highly confident this text was AI generated | 3 shown + 1 blurred |
| Text F | Human · Jerome K. Jerome, 1889 | AI 0% · Mixed 0% · Human 100% | We are highly confident this text is entirely human | behind sign-up |
The three result cards showed no “Mixed” share and no in-between percentage. One scan per text, so we can’t say how stable these are.
Against other detectors↑ Contents
Text D is where free detectors split in our detector comparison. GPTZero agrees with Copyleaks, Originality.ai and Sapling on it, and not with ZeroGPT.
| Text | GPTZero · Oct 17 | Copyleaks | Originality.ai | ZeroGPT | Sapling |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A · AI | AI 100% | 100% AI | Likely AI | 100% AI | 99.3% AI |
| D · AI, rewritten | AI 100% | 100% AI | Likely AI | 27.6% AI · “Most likely human” | 89.7% AI |
| F · Human | Human 100% | 0% AI | Likely Original | 0% AI | 0.1% AI |
One scan per text per tool. The other detectors’ results are from their own scan dates (Oct 8 to Oct 11). Our Oct 8 comparison mentions an earlier GPTZero scan of text D, also AI 100%.
Findings & screenshots↑ Contents
- The Undetectable AI rewrite (text D) came back AI 100%: “We are highly confident this text was AI generated.” ZeroGPT had called the same text “Most likely human”.
- The 1889 passage came back Human 100%: “We are highly confident this text is entirely human.” One old, famous human text is a thin control, so read this as one data point.
- The sentence list is not symmetrical. When the verdict is AI you get three “High AI impact” sentences. When it is human, the only route to a sentence view is a button that opens “Sign up to Continue”.
- On text A, three sentences were listed (“Furthermore, these technologies enable learners…”, “However, it is important to note…”, “Ultimately, striking the right balance…”) and a fourth card was blurred.
- “1/1 free scans left” stayed on screen while two more scans ran. We don’t know what limit, if any, applies beyond this one session.
We did not capture a screenshot of the text D result; its numbers come from the automated browser’s record of the page.

Artificial intelligence has fundamentally transformed the way students approach their academic work. In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, AI-powered tools offer unprecedented opportunities to enhance learning outcomes and streamline research processes. Furthermore, these technologies enable learners to access personalized feedback, identify knowledge gaps, and develop critical thinking skills more efficiently than ever before. However, it is important to note that the integration of AI in education also presents significant challenges, including concerns about academic integrity and over-reliance on automated assistance. Ultimately, striking the right balance between leveraging AI capabilities and fostering independent thought will be crucial for educators and students alike as they navigate this new era of learning.
Artificial intelligence is changing how students do their schoolwork. With all the new digital tools available, students can learn more easily and get help with their research. These tools can even give students personalized feedback, help them find areas where they need to improve, and make it easier for them to think critically. But we also need to be careful - using AI in education can be tricky. Some people worry that students might cheat or rely too much on computers to do their work. So, teachers and students need to find a way to use AI that helps them learn without doing all the work for them. This will be important as we move forward in this new way of learning.
We were all feeling seedy, and we were getting quite nervous about it. Harris said he felt such extraordinary fits of giddiness come over him at times, that he hardly knew what he was doing; and then George said that he had fits of giddiness too, and hardly knew what he was doing. With me, it was my liver that was out of order. I knew it was my liver that was out of order, because I had just been reading a patent liver-pill circular, in which were detailed the various symptoms by which a man could tell when his liver was out of order. I had them all. It is a most extraordinary thing, but I never read a patent medicine advertisement without being impelled to the conclusion that I am suffering from the particular disease therein dealt with in its most virulent form.
Text D comes from our Undetectable AI review. Text F is public domain (Project Gutenberg #308).

Method & updates↑ Contents
On Oct 17, 2026 an automated browser opened gptzero.me as a guest, pasted each text into the detector and pressed Scan once. It cleared the browser check on the way to the scan page. We recorded the results, the limits and the pop-ups; Jamie C. checked the records and wrote this page. Full method.
